FORT HOOD, Texas, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Army Reserve Pfc. Lynndie England was convicted Monday by a military court-martial in Texas of abusing inmates at Iraq's notorious Abu Ghraib Prison.
England was convicted of four counts of mistreatment, one of indecency and one of conspiracy and acquitted on one conspiracy count, the New York Times reported. She faces up to 10 years in prison when the Army jury reconvenes Tuesday to decide the sentence.
The 22-year-old reservist from Fort Ashby, W.Va., became notorious when a photograph became public that showed her holding a leash attached to a naked Iraqi prisoner.
During her trial, England's defense portrayed her as a troubled young woman under the thumb of her boyfriend, Pfc. Charles Graner, during the abuse in 2003. Graner was sentenced to eight years in prison for his part in the scandal.
Prosecutors said England was a willing participant in the prisoner abuse.
