McGill investigating football hazing

MONTREAL, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Officials at McGill University in Montreal plan to hold off on disciplinary measures until an investigation into a hazing incident is completed.

An 18-year-old football player says he was assaulted with a broomstick poked into his anus on a squash court in late August. The student, who has left McGill, was wearing boxer shorts during the so-called initiation ritual.

One player with the Redmen was suspended indefinitely and five others were suspended for a single game, the Toronto Globe and Mail reports.

"The investigation is not over, so why would we leap to a conclusion before the investigation is over?" McGill spokeswoman Jennifer Robinson said. "We're not assuming guilt. There are allegations. We're looking into the complaint."

McGill Principal Heather Monroe Blum has agreed to stronger anti-hazing policies.
