Radioactive metal found at jet crash site

VILNIUS, Lithuania, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Officials in Lithuania say about 4.4 pounds of radioactive metal was found near the site where a Russian SU-27 fighter jet crashed Sept. 15.

A spokesman for the Lithuanian Defense Ministry told the Interfax news agency that the metal poses no hazard to people working at the crash site, about 120 miles northwest of the capital, Vilnius.

In related news, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said Tuesday that Lithuania must release Maj. Valery Troyanov, the pilot, who ejected before the crash.

NATO has offered to help Lithuania get information from the plane's black box.
