King urges al-Qaida members to surrender

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Saudi King Abdullah called on wanted terror suspects to surrender to the authorities on the occasion of Friday's national holiday.

The Saudi monarch told a Cabinet meeting Monday that "national day provides a new occasion for members of the strayed category to make a self-revision and reconsider turning themselves in and returning to the right path."

Saudi officials always refer to al-Qaida activists as members of the strayed category who have deviated from the true path of Islam.

The Saudi authorities made public last June a list of 36 most wanted terror suspects, including seven non-Saudis. They said 21 are living abroad.

Saudi Arabia has been rocked by several terrorist attacks since May 2003 in which more than 256 people have been killed, including 90 civilians, 50 security forces and 118 gunmen.
