ST. LOUIS, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon is suing to close nearly a dozen hurricane relief Web sites that may be taking funds that will never help storm victims.
At least 10 the Internet sites reportedly are operated by a man with links to a white supremacist group, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Thursday.
Nixon filed a lawsuit in federal court Wednesday asking that Frank Weltner, who is associated with the National Alliance, and Internet Donations Inc. be ordered to return any money collected on the sites, which appeared days after Katrina hit Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.
"This is a horrendous use of Hurricane Katrina to the benefit of a hate group," Nixon told a news conference.
Weltner also operates a Web site called jewwatch.com, the Post-Dispatch said.
The National Alliance is listed as one of the most active neo-Nazi hate groups in the United States by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
