Ex-security chiefs suspects in killing

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said Lebanon's ex-security chiefs are suspects in the killing of former premier Rafik Hariri.

He said Gen. Jamil Sayyed, former general security director, Brig. Gen. Raymond Azar, former head of military intelligence, Brig. Gen. Ali Hajj, former chief of internal security forces, and Brig. Gen. Mustafa Hamdan, head of the Republican Guards, are being interrogated by an international commission investigating Hariri's Feb. 14 assassination.

"The outcome of interrogation with the suspects will define the future measures to be taken against them," Siniora told reporters after a meeting with the commission's chief, German prosecutor Detlev Mehlis.

Siniora said a fifth suspect, former legislator Nasser Kandil, who was also sought for questioning, was not at home. Kandil, a staunch pro-Syrian politician, is on a visit to Damascus and was informed that he should report to the commission as soon as possible.
