Egypt intelligence chief in Gaza

GAZA, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Egypt's intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Omar Suleiman met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Monday regarding Gaza after the Israeli withdrawal.

Suleiman also briefed Abbas and Palestinian security officials on the security role Egypt will on the border with Gaza where it will deploy 750 soldiers under an agreement with Israel.

Egypt's main task will be to curb infiltration of gunmen and arms through the Egyptian-Gaza border.

Suleiman will be meeting officials from several Palestinian factions, including Hamas which stressed that it will raise the issue of Palestinian prisoners in Israel with Suleiman.
