Anti-war protest draws other side to Texas

CRAWFORD, Texas, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Like enemy armies facing each other across no man's land, supporters and opponents of President Bush's Iraq policy have been facing off near his Texas ranch.

On Saturday, cavalcades of Bush supporters reached Crawford, CNN reported. They included a group from California that rallied under the title "You don't speak for me, Cindy," referring to Cindy Sheehan, who has been camped out for days near the Prairie Chapel Ranch.

"The terrorists that are watching Cindy Sheehan's protest believe that this is something that might topple the current administration." Howard Kaloogian, a founder of the pro-Bush Move Forward America, said. "And I have a question that I want the media to begin asking Cindy Sheehan: How many more American soldiers are going to die because you are giving hope and encouragement to our enemies?"

More than 1,000 anti-war protestors showed up to support Sheehan at Camp Casey, named after Sheehan's son, who was killed last year five days after his arrival in Iraq.

A columnist for the Houston Chronicle pointed out that in many ways the two groups resemble each other, sharing a mutual distrust. The pro-Bush group has even adopted a symbol from Sheehan and her supporters, the rows of white crosses representing soldiers killed in Iraq.
