Egypt blast linked to 'outside terrorists'

CAIRO, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- An Egyptian newspaper said Saturday the key suspect in last month's Sharm el-Sheik blasts was linked to "outside terrorists."

Al-Akhbar al-Yawm said the captured suspect in the Red Sea resort blasts, in which more than 60 people were killed, was directly linked to "terrorist elements inside and abroad who took part in the Sharm el-Sheik explosions."

The paper did not specify who these terrorists were, but it was the first time security sources reveal a link between the suspected perpetrators of the blasts and "outside" terrorist groups.

This came after officials have repeatedly insisted the terrorist operation was planned and executed by local elements only.

Several militant groups claimed responsibility for the blasts, including the Abdullah Azzam Brigades of al-Qaida Organization in the Levant and Egypt.
