BEIRUT, Lebanon, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- The son of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri said Friday he hopes investigators probing his father's killing are close to finding the truth.
Commenting on a report presented Thursday to the U.N. Security Council by a U.N. commission headed by Germany's top prosecutor, Detlev Mehlis, Saad Hariri said, "We are awaiting the final report which we hope will unveil the truth about who planned, executed and facilitated the crime against Lebanon and its people."
Saad Hariri urged all parties to cooperate with the international investigators, stressing, "the credibility of the U.N. and international community is at stake."
Hariri was assassinated in Beirut on Feb. 14 in a massive car-bomb attack.
Undersecretary-General Ibrahim Gambari, who briefed the Council on progress in the inquiry, told reporters that Jordan and Israel were cooperating and that a meeting was set for Friday in Geneva, Switzerland, between Mehlis and a representative of Syria, which has been suspected of involvement in the attack, about participation in the investigation.
