BRISBANE, Australia, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Australian investigators say a man who thought he was arranging a tryst with a 14-year-old girl was actually corresponding online with a police officer.
The 27-year-old man was arrested in Brisbane after traveling hundreds of miles from northern Queensland, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported. A court appearance was scheduled for Monday.
Detective Sgt. Peter Jory said the four-week investigation is a reminder to parents to monitor their children's computer use.
"People like this are prepared to travel distances to meet up with children and to either lead them away, take them away or to spend some time with them at a location, and of course you can imagine where that sort of conduct leads to," he said.
