GREENWOOD, S.C., Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Rep. William Jennings Bryan Dorn, D-S.C., will be honored by a Who's Who of South Carolina politics at funeral services this week.
Dorn, who represented South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives for 13 terms, died Saturday at his home in Greenwood, S.C., at the age of 89. The family said he had had a long illness prior to his death.
Services were set for Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Greenwood. Scheduled speakers include Gov. Dick Riley, whom Dorn campaigned for in 1978, The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C., reported.
Former Gov. Bob McNair; state Sen. John Drummond, D-Greenwood; state Sen. Tommy Moore, D-Aiken; and former Democratic National Committee Chairman Don Fowler are also to attend.
Dorn served in Congress from 1948-50 and 1952-74. He was known as a strong supporter of civil rights, and pushed for busing to integrate public schools.
Burial for the World War II Army Air Corps veteran will be with full military honors near Callison.
Dorn is survived by three daughters, two sons and seven grandchildren.
