WASHINGTON, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- The co-chairs of the Sept. 11 Commission say there is no evidence to support claims they ignored information about attack leader Mohamed Atta.
A statement issued by Thomas H. Kean and Lee H. Hamilton Friday night say there were no documents and not enough supporting evidence to follow up on a Naval officer claim to have seen Atta's name in a fellow officer's chart, The Washington Post reports.
This follows days of back and forth between the commission and Republican Rep. Curt Weldon of Pennsylvania.
Weldon has said the panel ignored key information from Pentagon analysts issued before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Weldon said there are unanswered questions left by the commission and vowed to "continue to push for a full accounting."
The commission also denied a former defense official's claim that he told commissioners about the Atta information.
