RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- A Saudi court Thursday sentenced a 15-year-old Egyptian boy to death for killing a 3-year-old Saudi girl.
Ahmed Abdel Mordi Mahmoud appeared in court in Damam in eastern Saudi Arabia for the ruling with his father and in the presence of the parents of the victim. The sentence must be endorsed by the court of appeal in Riyadh before it is enforced.
Saudi daily al-Yom reported that the boy admitted to the court that he killed his neighbor by stabbing her 20 times after a dispute.
In the meantime, the boy's father, a chemistry teacher residing in Saudi, appealed to the Egyptian Embassy to intervene and help him win pardon for his son from the girl's father.
"My son admitted that he committed the crime, but he is still young and is not aware of what he did," Abdel Mordi Mahmoud said.
