One Sharm el-Sheik bomber identified

CAIRO, July 26 (UPI) -- Egyptian security agencies have identified one of the suicide bombers in Sharm el-Sheik and rounded up 70 suspects from villages in the Sinai Peninsula.

A security official who spoke to UPI on condition of anonymity Tuesday said DNA tests were conducted on the remains of the suicide bomber who blew up a five-star hotel in Naama Bay.

He said the bomber was identified as Mohammed Badran Hanafi, an Egyptian from the Sinai Peninsula.

The source said police arrested several members of Hanafi's family for interrogation.

Police also rounded up 70 people from the villages and towns around Sharm el-Sheik for interrogation on possible links with last week's triple bombings, which claimed the lives of more than 80 people and injured 200 others.

In the meantime, the Egyptian government denied reports it is hunting down six Pakistani nationals in connection with the bombings.

Cairo's mass-circulation daily al-Ahram quoted interior ministry top official, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Shaarawi, as saying no Pakistani nationals are suspected.
