Pakistani suspects in Egypt bombings

CAIRO, July 25 (UPI) -- Police are searching for Pakistani suspects who arrived in Egypt shortly before last week's bombings at Sharm el-Sheik in which at least 64 people died.

Security officials Monday said police the Pakistani suspects probably used forged passports but their pictures are being circulated anyway.

An Interior Ministry official told UPI the search for the Pakistani nationals is part of the investigation and there is no evidence they were involved in the bombings.

A group naming itself Martyr Abdullah Azzam Brigades -- al-Qaida organization in Bilad Sham and Egypt -- claimed responsibility for the three bombings that ripped through a hotel, an old market and other tourist centers early Saturday. Unofficial figures put the death toll at more than 80.

In the meantime, police tightened security in villages north of Sharm el-Sheik, where a number of suspects are believed hiding, the security sources said. They said inspectors believe the cars used in the bombings were rigged in the villages.

Police also found remains from three bodies believed to belong to the bombers.
