SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt, July 23 (UPI) -- The death toll from the Sharm el-Sheik explosions has risen to at least 90, with more than 240 others injured, Egyptian security sources said Saturday.
They said most of the victims were Egyptians, but tourism officials said tourists were among the dead and injured, including Italians, Britons, Spaniards, Saudis, Russians, Ukrainians, Turks and Arabs from Israel.
A group calling itself al-Qaida in the Fertile Crescent claimed responsibility on an Islamic Web site for the three overnight bomb attacks on the Red Sea resort town, which also claimed responsibility for last October's attack in the Taba resort in the Sinai.
The New York Times said the first of two suicide bombers exploded a car packed with explosives about 1 a.m. between an old market and a new shopping center.
The second bomber drove an explosives-laden truck through the plate glass window and into the lobby of the Ghazala Gardens hotel, reducing the entrance to rubble.
The third bomb was in a bag left in a parking lot.
