Lea Fastow leaves halfway house

HOUSTON, July 8 (UPI) -- Lea Fastow, wife of the former financial chief of Houston-based Enron, is free after serving a one-year sentence on a tax charge.

Fastow, daughter of the prominent Weingarten real estate family, left a Houston halfway house early Friday, ending her sentence on charges indirectly related to the fall of Enron, where her husband, Andrew was chief financial officer, the Houston Chronicle reported.

She went to the halfway house June 7 after being at a maximum security federal detention center downtown. She will now be on a one-year federal supervision program.

The former stay-at-home mom plans to go to nursing school, the Chronicle said.

Andrew Fastow is expected to testify in a trial that starts in January against his ex-bosses and then head off for a likely 10-year prison term himself.
