MANAMA, Bahrain, July 5 (UPI) -- The head of Bahrain's diplomatic mission in Iraq escaped from an attempt to kidnap him in Baghdad Tuesday, but was injured in the incident.
The Bahraini News Agency said Hassan Ansari contacted foreign Minister Sheik Mohammed bin Mubarak al-Khalifa and informed him about the attempt by two masked gunmen.
Ansari said the attempt occurred while he was heading from his home to the mission's office in central Baghdad.
He said he was hit by a bullet in the arm and rushed to a nearby hospital and that his condition is stable.
The attempt on the Bahraini diplomat came days after gunmen kidnapped Egyptian ambassador in Iraq Ihab Sherif outside his home in Baghdad.
