LONDON, June 29 (UPI) -- A special U.N. investigator says the United Nations will look into allegations the United States secretly detained terror suspects on U.S. military ships.
Manfred Nowak told the BBC the allegations come from reliable sources. The alleged prison ships are believed in the Indian Ocean, he said.
Nowak called the allegations serious and urged the United States to cooperate with investigators.
The comments come just five days after the United Nations accused the United States of stalling U.N. requests to examine the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detention camp for human rights abuses. Nowak said the request was made more than a year ago and there has been no response from Washington.
