5 dead, 100 injured in Israel train crash

JERUSALEM, June 21 (UPI) -- Rescue crews are at the scene of a train wreck in central Israel, where several people were killed and about 100 injured.

Israel Radio said several passenger cars derailed after the train struck a truck on the track in Ashkelon. At least two rail cars were on their sides.

"One of the railroad cars is upside down, and it's impossible to tell what's inside," a paramedic told Israel Radio.

Reports said five people were dead and an undetermined number were trapped in the wreckage. The train was en route to Beersheba in southern Israel from Tel Aviv.
