Saudi king's health improves

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, June 18 (UPI) -- King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz's health is improving and he should leave the hospital soon, a top Saudi official said Saturday.

Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal told reporters in Riyadh that while the monarch's physicians will decide when to release him, "their reports indicate he will leave soon."

Fahd, 84, entered the King Faisal Specialized Hospital in the capital on May 27 for breathing problems.

The foreign minister said the king's medical reports were "reassuring" and showed his health was improving.

Palace sources said earlier this week the monarch had been cured from a lung infection but would remain for some time in hospital under observation.

The king's half-brother, Crown Prince Abdullah, has been running the affairs of the country since Fahd suffered a brain stroke in 1995.
