HOUSTON, June 6 (UPI) -- The wife of former Enron exec Andrew Fastow left a Houston federal detention center Monday after serving an 11-month sentence on a misdemeanor tax charge.
In a copyright story, the Houston Chronicle reported Lea Fastow emerged from prison, flanked by her husband, her sister and lawyers.
She was originally charged with lying on her taxes, conspiring to commit wire fraud and money laundering. But later she pleaded guilty to lying about income from an Enron deal on her tax return, the Chronicle said.
Fastow will now be housed in a halfway house to serve out the rest of her one-year term.
"It's been a tough year, but it's supposed to be a tough year," she told reporters.
Andrew Fastow awaits sentencing for his role in the collapse of the energy company. He is also expected to be a key witness in the January 2006 trial against his ex-bosses Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling, the Chronicle said.
