Woodward details Deep Throat contact

WASHINGTON, June 2 (UPI) -- Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward said he wouldn't reveal Deep Throat's identity but an article Thursday hints he was ready for when the truth came out.

In the article Woodward outlined his association with W. Mark Felt, the former FBI official who admitted he was Deep Throat -- the unnamed source who provided important information in the Watergate case that led to the resignation of President Nixon.

The detail in Thursday's article suggests Woodward had been massing information for when Deep Throat died. Felt's admission allowed Woodward to publish his story.

Woodward was in the Navy and delivering papers to the White House when he met Felt. He kept contact with the FBI man and a year after he was hired at the Post, Felt was providing information on the attempted killing of Alabama Gov. George Wallace. A year later, the Watergate story broke.

The idea that Woodward would soon be ready to publish a book on Deep Throat excites the publishing industry.

Literary agent Rafe Sagalyn told the New York Daily News: "It would be delicious. Woodward has not written a book in two decades that has not been a No. 1 best seller."
