NEW DELHI, May 31 (UPI) -- A fresh outbreak of sectarian violence in Pakistan has alarmed India's security establishment.
Indian security officials believe the the Jaish-e-Mohammed guerrilla group has revived and is planning new attacks in India as well as Pakistan, The Times of India newspaper reported Wednesday.
Indian security agencies and terrorism analysts believe a new round of terrorist attacks over the past week is a sure sign of the revival of the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed, particularly after one of the suicide attackers was found to be a JEM operative, the newspaper said.
Indian security officials are concerned over reports of recent secret and well-attended meetings in Pakistan between some of the brass in the intelligence establishment and jihad's leaders like Hamid Gul, Masood Azhar and Syed Salahuddin, The Times of India said.
Indian sources believe the rebirth of Jaish was crafted at this meeting, the paper said.
Jaish-e-Mohammed revival has ominous implications for Pakistan as well, the paper said. Apart from being very close to al-Qaida, the group had also been indicted for involvement in the assassination attempts against Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf in 2003, it said.
