LONDON, May 27 (UPI) -- The widow of a British man allegedly killed by militia loyal to Somalia's president is seeking his arrest during a visit to London for medical treatment.
Zahra Abdullah -- who has already won a civil action against President Abdullahi Yusuf in the high court -- is urging Britain to detain him as it did former Chilean President Augusto Pinochet, the Guardian reported Friday
Yusuf, 70, a warlord, is recognised by Britain as the head of Somalia's transitional government in exile. He is in Britain for treatment following a liver transplant.
Sultan Ahmed Mohamud Mohamed, a British citizen, was killed in the village of Kalabeyr in Somalia in August 2002. His widow told the Guardian he was a political leader who had returned from exile in London. He had been critical of Yusuf.
The high court heard earlier this year Sultan Ahmed had driven past a convoy led by Yusuf and had been spotted. Two vehicles and their armed occupants tracked him down and shot him. The high court agreed it appeared the killing was carried out by those acting under Yusuf's authority.
The widow's lawyer, Michael Hanley, has sent a dossier on the case to Scotland Yard.
