BRASILIA, Brazil, May 25 (UPI) -- Former Brazilian President Itamar Franco criticized his nation's current leader for trying to block a congressional investigation into a corruption scandal.
Franco -- now serving as Brazil's ambassador to Italy -- said President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is making a "huge mistake" by encouraging lawmakers to withdraw their support for the investigation.

Brazilian TV earlier this month broadcast a videotape of a high-ranking official from Brazil's post office accepting a large sum of cash.
The scandal implicates leaders from Brazil's Labor Party, a close ally to Lula.
