BUFFALO GROVE, Ill., May 14 (UPI) -- A suburban Chicago girl stabbed a boy inside a classroom at Aptakisic Junior High School in Buffalo Grove, police and school officials said Saturday.
The girl, 12, who confessed to the attack, stabbed her classmate Friday as school was starting, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Police said they injured boy is expected to survive. Investigators said the attack followed an incident days earlier when the victim asked the girl out on a date. When she refused, police said, he began spreading rumors about her around the school.
"Because he was turned down, the victim began telling other people he didn't like her, 'you shouldn't like her either, and here's why,'" Soucy said.
Police said the attack was premeditated, and the girl had brought a steak knife from home.
