Afghan 'most wanted' captured in Pakistan

KARACHI, Pakistan, May 3 (UPI) -- Pakistani police have caught a suspected Taliban fighter wanted by the Afghan government in the 2001 killing of a well-known pro-U.S. Afghan leader.

Voice of America reported Monday that Afghan national Sirajul Haq was captured in a raid in Pakistan's southern city of Karachi. Sirajul Haq, on the Afghan government's most wanted list, is accused of the slaying of Abdul Haq, an Afghan leader who was working with U.S. troops to overthrow the Taliban.

Abdul Haq was captured and killed by the Taliban in eastern Afghanistan in October 2001. He had slipped into Afghanistan from neighboring Pakistan on a secret mission to try to incite a rebellion against the militia.

According to the PakTribune, the Afghan government at that time offered a reward of approximately $35,000 for the capture of Sirajul Haq.
