Mich. man assaults girls as modeling agent

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., April 14 (UPI) -- Michigan resident Gregg Mayes created a fake modeling company and posed as an agent to lure girls to motel rooms and then assault them, police said.

Police allege the 57-year-old lived a double life as he assaulted girls across the state, WOOD-TV, Grand Rapids, reported Thursday.

Currently, Mayes faces one count of fourth degree criminal sexual misconduct after allegedly groping a 17-year-old East Lansing woman. Authorities also have tracked down at least four other victims and are investigating possible victims in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Florida, but said they are concerned about finding all the victims.

Mayes operated under the alias Peter Cordano, the name he had printed on phony business cards from the fake Look Model Management Agency. He allegedly assaulted victims as young as 14, the station said.

Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunning III urged victims not to feel embarrassed about being fooled by Mayes. "I'd like to assure the ladies out there that there were a lot of people who bought his story, and there is nothing to be ashamed of," he said.
