Brazil delays tax vote

BRASILIA, Brazil, March 30 (UPI) -- Brazilian lawmakers have decided to delay a vote on a crucial tax reform bill due to lack of support for the initiative, O Globo reported Wednesday.

The proposed bill put forth by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva would reduce some income taxes and raise taxes on services companies from 32 to 40 percent.

However the bill has been criticized by both opponents of Lula's ruling Workers' Party and lawmakers in the president's center-left coalition, prompting the Lula administration to put a hold on the vote to rally additional support.
