Danish PM bans weapons for ministers

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, March 29 (UPI) -- Denmark's prime minister has criticized the defense minister for taking one of the army's handguns with him during a visit to Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Tuesday Defense Minister Soren Gade would be the last Danish minister to carry a gun during a foreign visit, reported the Copenhagen Post.

During his weekly news conference, Rasmussen said he ordered ministers to remain unarmed while performing official duties.

"I advise politicians not to be armed," he said. "Chances are that they will shoot themselves in the foot."
