Hezbollah: U.S. seeks Lebanon strife

BEIRUT, Lebanon, March 22 (UPI) -- The Shiite militant group Hezbollah Tuesday accused the United States of inciting the Lebanese against each other and against Syria.

Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah told reporters in Beirut U.S. interference "is very clear under the pretext of helping the Lebanese achieve independence and sovereignty."

"These claims are all lies ... In fact the U.S. is encouraging the Lebanese to put pressure on Syria to pull out from Lebanon and is inciting them against each other," Nasrallah charged.

Asked to comment on calls to disarm Hezbollah, Nasrallah said: "We are not fans of carrying arms, but we are people who feel responsible for our nation, in the sense that we have struggled and we will keep on fighting to liberate our territory."

Nasrallah also called for dialogue among all Lebanese factions.
