94 starving pets found in couple's home

UMATILLA, Fla., March 11 (UPI) -- Animal control officers found 94 starving and thirsty dogs and cats at the house of a Florida couple who sold animals at flea markets.

WKMG-TV in Orlando reports that investigators from Florida Fish and Wildlife went to the home of Katherine and Robert Collins in Umatilla after receiving an anonymous tip that something was wrong there.

In addition to the dogs and cats, the investigators found a wolf the couple used to breed hybrid puppies for sale.

Officers said they could not imagine anyone willing to buy the Collins' animals. Thirty cats were in such bad shape they were euthanized immediately, and a spokeswoman for Lake County Animal Control said the animals were so dehydrated they would drink and throw up.

The couple faces misdemeanor charges and could be charged with a felony, depending on a veterinarian's report.
