The Marxist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, of which Sonia is a member, uses drug revenue to fund its 40-year war with the Colombian government.

Last month Colombia's Supreme Court authorized the extradition of notorious drug cartel leader Miguel Rodriguez Orejuela, whose brother, Gilberto, has already been sent to the United States to face trafficking charges.

The siblings were the founders of the notorious Cali cartel, responsible for most of the world's cocaine traffic during the 1990s.
