Moose killed after attacking child

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, March 3 (UPI) -- A moose that regularly visited an Alaska trailer park for handouts was shot and killed by police after it stomped on a 6-year-old boy.

An Anchorage police officer shot the young, male moose after the boy was safely in a neighbor's home at the Rangeview Mobile Home Park, the Anchorage Daily News said Thursday.

The boy, Peyton Huisingh, suffered a split lip and minor headache, police said.

"As usual, it's people that have caused the problem and the moose that suffered the ultimate consequence," said Rick Sinnott, an area wildlife biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Police said the 700 to 1,000-pound moose was acting aggressively and they had to take action rather than wait for Fish and Game to arrive.

Several residents told of feeding the moose although advised not to and petting the animal. The manager of the trailer park said some kids had been throwing snowballs and rocks at it.
