Dems name campaign building for Daschle

WASHINGTON, March 3 (UPI) -- The building that houses the Democrats' U.S. Senate campaign operations has been renamed in honor of former Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D.

A protege of former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, D-Maine, Daschle was the Senate's lead Democrat for 10 years beginning in 1994. He was defeated for re-election in 2004 by Republican John Thune, becoming the first party leader to lose a bid for another term since Arizona's Ernest J. McFarland in 1952.

The building on Capitol Hill will be called "The Sen. Thomas A. Daschle Building," the Sioux Falls (S.D.) Argus-Leader said Thursday.

Daschle has not yet decided what his next job will be, but said he has been speaking to groups around the country and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
