Alleged kidnapper of Liz Smart worsens

SALT LAKE CITY, March 1 (UPI) -- The lawyer for accused kidnapper of Elizabeth Smart says he will fight an attempt by a Utah court to force his client to take antipsychotic drugs.

Wanda Eileen Barzee's mental condition has worsened during the last six months, according to doctors at the Utah State Hospital.

Court documents filed this month on behalf of the state's mental institution said the only option left is to force Barzee to take antipsychotic medications, but that would require a court order, the Salt Lake Tribune reported Tuesday.

Her attorney, Scott Williams, said he will oppose such an order.

Barzee suffers from a psychotic disorder that produces persecutory and grandiose delusions and paranoia.

According to court documents, Barzee says her "vows of silence," are directed by God and she believes God wants her to watch movies because he sends her messages through them.

Barzee, along with her co-defendant husband Brian David Mitchell, allegedly kidnapped Smart from her Utah home in 2002.
