Ex-Israeli minister admits to drug charges

JERUSALEM, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- A former Israeli energy minister reportedly has admitted to trying to smuggle some 32,000 ecstasy pills into the country and forging a diplomatic passport.

Gonen Segev made the admission Sunday as part of a plea bargain, the Ha'aretz news service reported. As part of the deal, he will be sentenced to five years imprisonment and fined $27,500, all of which will be donated to a drug fighting group, the report said.

Segev has been in jail since his arrest at Tel Aviv's airport last April over involvement in alleged international Ecstasy drug smuggling from the Netherlands.
