Suspect allegedly discussed Bush killing

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- An indictment released Tuesday in Virginia said a U.S. citizen discussed ways of assassinating President George Bush with co-conspirators in Saudi Arabia.

The six-count indictment against Ahmed Omar Abu Ali did not allege any concrete acts following the discussions. Instead, Abu Ali was charged with providing material support to al-Qaida.

Abu Ali had been held in Saudi Arabia for some time, prompting his family and friends to allege the United States was keeping him there.

The indictment said the Saudi government identified 19 terrorists May 7, 2003. On May 12, 2003, attacks in Riyadh killed 34 people, including nine U.S. citizens.

Abu Ali, who last lived in Falls Church, Va., traveled to Medina, Saudi Arabia, and met at different times his two unnamed co-conspirators, the indictment said. The two have subsequently been arrested by the Saudis.

Abu-Ali was the valedictorian of his Falls Church, Va., high school and was studying in Saudi Arabia at the time of his arrest.
