Queen won't attend son's civil ceremony

LONDON, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Britain's Queen Elizabeth II is not planning to attend the civil marriage ceremony of her son and his bride, a palace statement said Tuesday.

The civil marriage ceremony of the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles is scheduled April 8, at the Guildhall in Windsor.

Buckingham Palace officials said although the queen will not attend the civil ceremony she will attend the church blessing and would be happy to host the reception afterwards, the BBC reported.

The children of Prince Charles -- Prince William and Prince Harry -- along with Parker Bowles' children, Tom and Laura, are planning to attend the civil ceremony.
