DETROIT, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- The FBI is performing DNA analysis on blood from a Detroit house possibly linked to the death of Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa, the Detroit Free Press said Monday.
Bloomfield Township Police Chief Jeffrey Werner said technicians had found blood in floorboards investigators removed from the home last May.
Hoffa was 62 when he vanished July 30, 1975, from the parking lot of an area restaurant. He had gone there to meet with Detroit mob boss Anthony Giacalone and Anthony Provenzano, a New Jersey Teamsters official, to make peace with Provenzano, the newspaper said.
Last June, Charles Brandt, the biographer of Delaware Teamsters official and mob hit man Frank Sheeran, published a book claiming Sheeran shot Hoffa twice in the head in the Detroit house the day he disappeared.
The FBI has long suspected Provenzano henchmen killed Hoffa to prevent him from regaining the Teamsters presidency and cutting off mob access to union pension funds. However, the suspects had alibis for the day Hoffa vanished.
