Hamas, Islamic Jihad to maintain truce

GAZA, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Militant Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad have said they will maintain an unofficial truce while considering a ceasefire with Israel.

Senior Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar said the group would make a final decision after reflecting on Saturday's talks with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

Islamic Jihad confirmed it would also respect the undeclared peace.

Abbas went to Gaza hoping to convince the groups to join the ceasefire he negotiated with Israel.
