WASHINGTON, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The wife of former Michigan Sen. and Bush Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham says she may run for the Senate in 2006.

Stabenow, a former state legislator and member of the U.S. House, was first elected to the Senate in 2000 by narrowly defeating Spencer Abraham in his only re-election bid.

A longtime GOP activist, Jane Abraham has served as head of the Susan B. Anthony List, a national organization that raises funds for Republican congressional candidates who oppose abortion rights.

Already announced on the Republican side is Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, who entered the race Monday. Other Republicans who are reportedly considering a run are Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca, former Detroit City Councilman Keith Butler and Detroit businessman Peter Cummings.
