Georgian FM tapped for PM post

TBLISI, Georgia, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili named Finance Minister Zurab Nogaideli as the country's new prime minister.

Nogaideli replaces Zurab Zhvania who was found dead from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning in a friend's apartment last Thursday.

"He is to nominate members of the new Cabinet within two days," presidential spokeswoman Alana Gagloeva said in a televised appearance. "It is important for us to finish the work we started and to avoid any disturbances."

The country's parliament has 10 days to approve Nogaideli's nomination. There was no immediate word on who will take over as finance minister.

Nogaideli, 40, was a close ally of Zhvania.
