KUWAITI CITY, Kuwait, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Kuwaiti authorities said they wiped out a terrorist group following clashes in which a civilian and four gunmen were killed Monday.
An Interior Ministry statement said police raided a terrorist hideout, killing four and wounding three. Three other terrorists surrendered.
A civilian was killed in the incident and three police officers were wounded.
Ministry spokesman Col. Adel Hashash was quoted by the Kuwaiti News Agency, KUNA, as saying earlier a gunbattle took place in the region of Mubarak al-Kabir south of Kuwait City.
"Among the terrorists who surrendered is the group's chief, Amer Khalif al-Onazi, who is a main wanted terrorist," Hashash said.
Kuwaiti Emir, Sheik Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah sent his personal condolences to the family of the dead civilian, haling his great sacrifice for his nation, KUNA said.
