Professor''s resignation demanded

BOULDER, Colo., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- A Colorado college professor has refused to take back a statement that people killed in the destruction of the World Trade Center were "little Eichmanns."

Ward Churchill, chairman of the ethnic studies department at the University of Colorado-Boulder, has angered many both in his home state and in upstate New York, where he is scheduled to speak at Hamilton College, the Denver Post reports. Churchill was invited to Hamilton to talk about American Indians and prisons, but organizers changed the topic when they learned about his comments on the 9/11 attacks.

Two Colorado congressmen have demanded that Churchill apologize for his statements.

"The professor's remarks go beyond dissent," said Democrat Mark Udall. "His interpretation of what happened on 9/11 is factually inaccurate, and his defamation of the attack's victims is indefensible and reprehensible."

Republican Bob Beauprez said that Churchill should also resign from the university, where he has tenure.
