India, China improving bonds

NEW DELHI, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- An official high-level Chinese delegation is visiting India, strengthening ties and paving the way for a visit by Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao in March.

The visiting Chinese delegation to New Delhi is led by Deputy Foreign Minister Wu Dawei. The group is being hosted by Indian Foreign Secretary Shayam Saran.

Talks began Monday morning and continued over a working lunch. Wu also met Indian Foreign Minister Natwar Singh later in the day. Few details were given of the nature of the talks.

Despite closer ties, India and China still have longstanding unresolved border disputes. However, analysts say these differences have been played down as China and India have developed a blossoming economic relationship.

India's external affairs minister, Navtej Sarna, said that the next strategic talks would be held in China at a date to be decided later.
