Plea bargain offer in deadly Texas crash

DALLAS, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- A truck driver charged in a 10-fatality Texas crash has been offered 10 years in prison in a plea bargain that is drawing fire from victim's relatives.

Miroslaw Janusz Jozwiak is facing manslaughter charges in the head-on collision last September on U.S. 75 near Sherman in North Texas. He has not reached a decision on the offer yet, The Dallas Morning News reported Friday.

Two survivors and the families of the victims have called the plea bargain offer disappointing.

"I don't feel like justice was given a chance," said Mike Martin, who lost his wife, three sons and mother-in-law in the crash.

Grayson County Attorney Joe Brown said he could not discuss the offer, but he said he understands the frustration of the families.

Joswiak was driving north on Sept. 20 when he crossed the median and hit a truck and sport utility vehicle, police said. Five people were killed in each vehicle. He was alone.

Police have been investigating whether Jozwiak fell asleep at the wheel of the truck.
