TBILISI, Georgia, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania and South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity may meet this week, Interfax news agency reported Wednesday.

The prime minister of the former Soviet republic in the Caucasus east of the Black Sea and the leader of its breakaway South Ossetian region may meet in the Tskhinvali region of Georgia on Thursday or Friday, Georgian State Minister Giorgi Khaindrava told journalists.

"Zhvania is planning to visit Georgian villages in the Tskhinvali region on New Year's Eve. It cannot be ruled out that he might have a brief unofficial meeting with Kokoity," Khaindrava said.
